The day has come!! I couldn’t wait to get my very first Foodie Penpal assignment, I couldn’t wait for my first Foodie Penpal package to be delivered, and I couldn’t wait to get this post out their to all of my readers on exactly what my PenPal had sent me!!
Christine is from Asheville, NC. She lives with her boyfriend and 4 children, ranging from 3 mths to 19 years) Now that’s a momm’a right there!! She is a type 1 diabetic that has a new lease on life after loosing a child not knowing she was even diabetic! Christine blogs over at For The Love of Food. (cute name huh!) I’d like to try her recipe for A Steak House Salad. That looked yummy!!! This awesome Momma sent me some pretty amazing things. I was so excited to open this box! It was FULL (I mean FULL) of goodies. (Ok and I liked the pink the bubble wrap too, I plan on recycling that baby for next month’s lucky foodie penpal!!)
Let’s check out each item, that’s how awesome it all looked! (Yes that is wine you see, man she must have really known me!)
How awesome is this?!! Yes you are reading that correctly, It says Butt Rub HAHA!! I used to this to make pork this past week. Christine was so kind to enclose a note explaining why she bought each product for me. She said this is a true Southern Spice, so of course I had to use it! So I ended up calling the dish a Southern Pork w/Chipolte Sauce.
Because, yes she sent me Chipolte Cream sauce too!!! It said good on Pork (plus other things) so I gave it a go!! Check it out! Then their was Country Biscuits and Country Gravy to go with it, another Southern dish, I can’t wait to make these, I’ll save it maybe for a time when we have dinner guests!! (AKA. mommy/daddy friends with kiddos running around)
I also tried the Love Crunch (how cute of a name is that!) I some to my oatmeal one morning this week, I’m always looking for something to stick in my oatmeal, breakfast needs to go a long way for this Momma!
Christine also sent something from her boyfriends background. Flavored Milk, who wouldn’t like that, my husband’s name is all over this one. And of course you can’t forget the wine. She said that she lives close to the Biltmore, which happens to be where her boyfriend works, which happens to make their own wine!! Score for me!! I’m using it next week to make a Sangria!! YUM!
Then their was something from her own background she sent (Italian) I was on my way out the door for the weekend when I got the package so I immedietley packed these puppies for snacking at the camp. I LOVE BRUCHETTA!! Never thought of it in a cracker style…YUM!! Maybe I need to move South?????
I think Christine read my mind with ALL of these goodies!! Thank you so much for the awesome Package Christine! I love how she personalized each item to her family, heritage and her home!! I’m going to enjoy this Foodie PenPal more than I could have imagined!! I already can’t wait for next month!
I sent a package to Diana over at Veggie Next Door! 🙂
So Christine, I used the Chipolte Sauce last night to have over my pork and Mashed Cauliflower, and I also used the Butt Rub on the pork! Check it out! Rubbed it right on the pork.
Then made the Chipolte Sauce (See the post card of the Biltmore she sent me!!)
And now it’s time for some details about Foodie Penpals. In case you’re a new reader, here’s a reminder of what the program is all about:
-On the 5th of every month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you are to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
-Foodie Penplas is open to US & Canadian residents. Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa.
If you’re interested in participating for June, please CLICK HERE to fill out the participation form and read the terms and conditions.
You must submit your information by July 4th as pairings will be emailed on July 5th!
*If you’re from somewhere besides the US, Canada or Europe and want to participate, send me an email and I’ll see if we get enough interest this month!
